A House Not Meant To Stand

$14.95

Christmas 1982: Cornelius and Bella McCorkle of Pascagoula, Mississippi, return one stormy midnight from the funeral of their older son to a house and a life literally falling apart-daughter Joanie is in an asylum and their younger son Charlie is upstairs having sex with his pregnant, holly-roller girlfriend as the McCorkles enter. In this dark, expressionistic comedy, what he called his “Southern Gothic Spook Sonata,” Williams brilliantly chronicles the fragile state of our world.

Highly acclaimed, two-time Tony Award-winning director and producer Gregory Mosher has provided a first hand account of working with Williams on the original production. Former artistic director of the Goodman Theatre in Chicago and the Lincoln Center Theater, Mosher currently serves as Director of the Columbia University Arts Initiative. A House Not Meant to Stand has been edited, with an introduction, by Thomas Keith, an editor and the production manager/art director at New Directions.
